About Tom Grill:
Tom Grill is at the forefront of high-resolution digital photography and digital manipulation. His prints combine multiple image files at very high resolution to create ultra-sharp photographs for mural-sized prints. His Portfolios are comprised of many of his greatest photographs that can be custom printed and framed in large or medium sizes on a choice of archival pigment papers, acrylic, or dye-sublimation metal prints. His “Odyssey”, “Horizons”, and “Juxtapose” series use his personally developed post-production techniques to achieve stunning effects for printed photographic art.
Tom refers to his graphic style as “Image Architecture” where his approach to constructing the image is to first break apart a scene into component parts, then use those parts as the building blocks for reconstructing a new scene with minimalist, architectural overtones. His art seeks to impart a structured style and composition to the landscape that emphasizes and rejoices in the delicate, underlying balance we inherently seek in the structure of our natural world.
In a sense, this stylistic method borrows from Cubism the technique of illustrating space volumetrically by moving through it to reveal alternate views of the same scene. In addition to the spatial reconstruction, this process adds an element of time to the work as the various components of the scene are photographed from different perspectives and different moments and later reassembled into a larger, more comprehensive experience.
